Pregnancy is such a magical time, not only for the expectant mum, but dad and even the dog as well. When Sarah suggested they’d like to include their beloved Dribbles in their maternity family photography session, I got excited. After all, your family photography session isn’t just about pretty pictures, I’d love for you to remember the whole experience and what can be better than having your loves by your side, especially in this exciting anticipation of the arrival of the new person to join the family.

Location is always carefully chosen to have some kind meaning to the family, whether it is your own home or the beach or park where you frequently take walks. In case with Sarah and Jeremy, beach and forest have a special place in their hearts, so this private location was a perfect spot to capture their love for each other and the excitement for the pregnancy.

Each family photography session is carefully planned individually with each client so you have the most wonderful memories of the whole experience in addition to the beautiful images we would create together.

When you have your first baby you have a photo of every single one of their milestones. When you have a second one, you are lucky if you’ve put together their first photo album… and then when you have a third one on the way… well, it was a perfect time for Laura and her family to have me spent a morning with them because family photography is often something we undervalue yet it would be so wonderful for our children to look back at. Those little moments, your typical morning on Sunday, the regular things that we take for granted and that mean so much – your family photography session does not have to be stiff and formal if you don’t want it to be. And that is what I absolutely loved about this one – spontaneous and real, just like the life with toddler and preschooler.

Growing another human inside your body is magical, more difficult to some, but mostly magical. Just think about it for a second. During pregnancy, if the mother suffers organ damage, the baby in the womb sends stem cells to repair the damaged organ. And even after the baby is born, it is like your own heart outside your body.

I am fascinated by that innate connection, the womanhood and what it means for each woman to experience pregnancy. This wonderful video explains what my sessions are about – they are about you and getting in touch with yourself and your wonderful journey to become a parent.

Just before moving to sunny Queensland, I got a chance to photograph gorgeous Sarah who is expecting a baby girl. To celebrate such exciting news, what could have been better than organising a session to capture her journey into the motherhood.

“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.”

Quite often we get so excited about meeting the baby that we forget to pause, be present in the moment and assess the all encompassing changes that happen when you are growing another human inside. I invite my clients to take this opportunity to look inwards and allow me to capture the beauty, sensuality and intimacy of pregnancy.
