Had a blast with this beautiful family back in 2015!
Had a blast with this beautiful family back in 2015!
Another day in my life captured – this time in Moscow. I recently took a trip to Moscow to have my children finally meet my grandparents. While many told me I’d be amazed by the many changes since my last visit I think I was mostly surprised when there was an electronic queue ticket machine and I didn’t have to wait to get the paperwork business done with the local authorities. All in all, it’s a beautiful, but very polluted city. It’s also massive and very very populated! I loved seeing the family and old friends but it’s great to be home!
This day in the life is from our very last day in Moscow where we enjoyed a typical Russian ice-cream with my son, went to visit Detsky Mir which is a huge 6 storey children’s mall right in the heart of the city. We saw the Robot Show, checked out Hamley’s toy section and had dinner at one of the busiest streets of Moscow before heading home.
Surely, I was hoping to walk over to the Red Square and capture how massive it is with the Cathedral in the background, however due to Military Parade and “1000 days till FIFA” it was all filled with people and some kind of construction in the middle of the square. That was actually quite a disappointing part of the trip – many public places along Tverskaya were full of market tents which in turns attracts a lot of people which obviously made it impossible for me to capture what I had in mind.
Nevertheless, here is a day with my kids enjoying our last day of our 5 week around the world trip!
Freshly blogged for A DAY IN THE LIFE – CAPTURED:
I’ve always been quite intrigued to follow a day in the life of others – I mean who doesn’t like a little glimpse into a day to day life of another busy human that leads an interesting life. Even better when it’s someone who can capture it in all honesty and so beautifully as a group of us here… Yes, I realise it is not very modest of me to say that, but let’s be honest and mature – we all have something beautiful and interesting to share and the older I get the more I treasure the every day things, raw and honest, messy and full of clutter, tears and joy… so here we go…
I am Yana Klein and I am a natural light portrait and lifestyle photographer. I have special love for documentary photography and love capturing human connections in all their forms. As much as I love photography and capturing my clients, I am guilty of not picking up the camera enough around my own family. With our ever busy schedules I simply have my hands full most times so this was a perfect timing for me to challenge myself while I inhale every precious moment with my little family.
Recently someone discussed weekly routines with the kids and while thinking about ours I realised that nearly every day of the week for us is different. Our days off are not your regular Saturday and Sunday. In fact, Wednesday is my lazy day with the kids when we wear pjs till noon, ok maybe even all day.
So here is a little glimpse into our lazy wintery Wednesday, my children’s naughty and larger than life personalities and my creative challenge to shoot this in all natural light with dark parts of the house.

It was bittersweet to photograph this family. I photographed them when they just brought Henry home from the hospital and now they are about to move back home to America. Surely, as a person who’s moved quite a bit I can completely relate to all the chaos and excitement of the big move. So when Lizzy enquired about a session just before their departure, I knew how important it’d be for them to capture their favourite things, Henry’s first home and to be able to translate their year’s experience into images so that they can share with the family.
I have to say, I had 55 million ideas of what we can do and it is very important for me to be on the same page with my client. Yet, through this session I realised that it is equally important for me to go with the flow and shoot as the day unfolds. So thank you guys for letting me do this for you. And for me. Because sometimes you meet such awesome people that get you and your ways. And the feeling is so mutual.
I know I’ve said this about my other client’s children, but I do mean it every time. Henry reminded me of my own son in so many ways and I am bit sad to see you go, yet so very excited at the same time that these guys get to reunite with their families! Have a fantastic and adventurous trip home and please keep the promise of coming back with a little girl 🙂
Until next time,
xx
